Estate Organization

Our main focus at Friends of the Family, ESTATE ORGANIZERS is to ensure you have your affairs in order. All too often people put off organizing their estate for a vast number of reasons, ranging from believing they will bring on a premature death, to not knowing how to go about getting started. It is our job to review all aspects of your estate and to assist in its coordination and development. We will provide you with options for the organization and documentation of your estate and we will assure your objectives and wishes will be accomplished.

Power of Attorney

This document is completed by your Lawyer. The role of a Power of Attorney is a great responsibility and can require an unlimited amount of time. Sometimes people find it difficult to choose a family member or friend to act in this capacity. Friends of the Family can arrange and organize for the required work to be completed.

Executor

The will is prepared by your Lawyer. Selecting an executor is one of the first considerations a person makes when beginning the process of having a Will prepared. Designating someone who is qualified to carry out the wishes set forth in a Will can be worrisome, so as an option, the Friends of the Family can arrange and organize for the required work to be completed.

Friends of the Family provides specialized assistance that ensures people of the proper administration of their estate, as well as the proper distribution of their assets in accordance with their wishes.

Appointment of Guardian

Guardian of Minor children or adults with disabilities: If a medical emergency arises involving a minor child or adult with disabilities, medical personnel will act to maintain life. However, decisions on specific courses of treatment or the giving or withholding of consent to treatment is something that Guardians can do if the parents are unavailable or unable to make these decisions.

The role of the Guardian may extend beyond medical decision making. A properly appointed Guardian steps into the role of the parent and can make decisions regarding the medical, educational and social well-being of the child(ren) or adult with disabilities.

Consequently, parents should carefully consider who should be appointed Guardian for minor children or an adult with disabilities. It is important that parents and prospective Guardians realize that, on occasion, Guardians may be required to act for extended periods of time. The appointment of Guardian is a legal document requiring specific signing formalities.

Medical Directives

This document is completed by your Lawyer and may also be known as a Living Will, Advance Health Care Directive, or Power of Attorney for Personal Care. Generally speaking, this document allows you to appoint another person to consent or not consent to medical treatment on your behalf in the event you are unable to do so yourself. Friends of the Family, ESTATE ORGANIZERS ensure your wishes are in writing and made clear to your doctor and loved ones, to reduce any possible conflicts that may arise concerning your care and well being.
